Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Zest of 1 lime
- ¼ cup lime juice
- ¼ cup cachaça (Brazilian sugarcane liquor)
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- Lime zest for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, lime zest, lime juice, and cachaça.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined (don’t overmix).
- Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about ¾ full.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and lime juice until smooth.
- Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze and place them back on the wire rack. Garnish with lime zest.
Tips
- For a more intense lime flavor, add more lime zest to the dough.
- If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time.
- If the glaze is too thin, add more powdered sugar.
